Agreed. I never suggested this though.

Possibly another reason to have a daemon which might be able to handle
this.

Agreed, it is a tough problem. Could you think of a way to do it if we had
a daemon?
If a daemon is in store for 2.0, it might just be worth it to put it off
until then. Majordomo has definetly come to the point where it is being
heavily used and is facing problems and situations it never had to contend
with. The big leagues are here...
