It's also completely undocumented.  What on earth does it do?  Why would it
be at all useful to us?

It looks like it attempts to resolve a name for any given IP addresses
(which can't always be done) and attempts to play games with pieces of the
host/domain name in an attempt to turn sina.hpc.uh.edu into hpc.uh.edu,
which is a dumb thing to do in the first place.  (Because, for example,
jason@junior.hpc.uh.edu and jason@hpc.uh.edu are different people.  The
latter is an alias for me, the former is a student.)
