I'm curious then why you would embed the spaces in this massage ??
is there some uncertainty as to whether majordomo would actually _act_ on it ?

I consider it self-evident, given the amount of "activity" that the
whole subscribe/unsubscribe issue comsumes on most lists, that
Majordomo, _simply_ _should_ consider any message with the
{Un,}S-word as a maintenance request.

To still the howls of unwarranted protest from those who strive to keep
MD as backward{s,-compatable} as possible, a couple of alternatives exist:
Only treat messages having a single non-whitespace-containing line with
the {Un,}S-word as a maintenance request, and/or
Consider _any_ message with the {Un,}S-word as an _error_ which is
not transmitted to the list, but returned to the
originator prepended with the destructions for how to do it right.

couldn't wavestation-digest@... simply be aliased to wavestation@...
or the message returned as an error, or silently squelched...

this may or may not be good advice... the more one looks at the
consumption of infant-bovine food by humans, and the defacto
dominance of the dairy industry, and its primary and secondary
effects on the environment and on human health (esp. in kids
colic, ear infections, ADD, etc.), the worse an idea it seems...

Now, if your talking about mother's milk, I'm with ya ;-)
      (too bad there's never _lots_)
