My version of majordomo included a fine cgi-script "md-sub.cgi" written
by "John Orthoefer <jco@direwolf.com>". I modified it a bit and enabled
it to serve different languages. It is easy to install, easy to use and
easy to adapt to your needs.
Mail me directly if you are interested, I will send it directly to you
without wasting bandwith and disk space of this mailing list.
Now a few word about why I didn't make this mail a simple reply to a
previous question:
I am just working with the setup of a mailing list for a private club.
The members are non-hackers and their native language is german. So
I thought it would be a great help to provide a web-form to subscribe
and
unsubscribe resp. To lower the threshold to become a member of the list
it would also be a great help to have the administative messages to the
users
in their native language (the list owners can be "bothered" with
english messages! They don't read them anyway!).
So I took a closer look at the MD scripts and was surprised to see most
of the messages hard coded into the sources. So I took the above
mentioned
script as a test to make it "language sensitive". It turned out to be
quite
simple (I didn't expect anything else).
My idea is that majordomo could extract the "country code" of the
sender's
address: the last part of the email address ("de" in my case). This is
the key to select the language. If there is a file named let's say
"md-text.de" this will be taken to provide the text elements for MD's
administatrive mails to the user. If there is no such file the default
settings will be taken - which are (surprise!) in english.
My question to majordomo-users is whether there are other users who
would appreciate the language "problem" to be solved directly within MD.
My question to majordomo-workers is whether it is worth to be
considered to have a "babylonial" version of MD (this may depend a bit
on the answer of the user-question).
Waiting for discussion,
Mathias
