While slogging through a boring cleanup of the token acceptance functions
of Mj2, I thought of an interesting idea that I'd throw out: multiple
command interfaces for email.
Since the text parser is only there to take apart command lines and turn
them into calls to the core (which have well defined parameter lists) it's
perfectly possible to support more than one command syntax. Why? Well,
you could run a different parser at 'listserv@your.site' and please people
who expect listserv command syntax.
Now, although some may not like it, I believe that we will inevitably be up
against some IETF standard for list server command syntax. We already have
the list-header folks trying to standardize confirmation messages.
Eventually someone will be willing to brave the religious war and get
through the standards process. And it would be nice to be ready for that.
Thoughts? (Not that I'm going to work on this any time soon, mind you, but
it's interesting nonetheless.)
Yes, I'm still working on Mj2 stuff. It gets two hours per day, except on
weekends. I haven't gone ahead and put out a snapshot yet, but I probably
should. Is anyone interested in one?
