It occurs to me that there is something of an anomoly in the way the
subscription and restrict_post features interact and I'd be interested
to know what the rationale is behind the operation of each feature.
Basically, if a user sends a subscribe command without explicitly
specifying an email address, majordomo will take the Reply-To: address
(if one has been defined) before any From: address.
Restrict_post, however does not check to see if the Reply-To: address is
matched in any of the specified files.
The latter behavior makes perfect sense, after all Reply-To:, by no
means determines who *sent* the mail to the list. However it does
create an anomoly if Reply-To: does not match From:. A user will be
subscribed under their Reply-To: address, but unable to post because
their From: address is different (and it's form may be out of th
user's control - eg, rewritten by the MTA).
It is quite easy to do as I do and tell people to either fix their
headers (where possible) or resubscribe explicitly using their From:
address, however the initial behaviour of the subscribe mechanism does
seem slight odd.
I haven't looked closely, but presumably subscribing to an 'auto' list
also has issues pertaining to From: and Reply-To: mismatches.
