Well, I'm getting pretty close to running my lists with it. That doesn't
mean it's getting anywhere near replacing 1.94, because there are things I
haven't implemented (digests) and of course because things like MajorCool
don't work with it. And the more things that get (officially) added to
1.94, the farther away a 2.0 release becomes because there's more to be
backwards compatible with. And things are moving in directions that I may
not be able to be directly compatible with, because I already do these
things and I do them differently.

But to answer your question, remember that I feel safe calling it alpha
when I can run my lists with it. Perhaps that's stronger than your
criteria, in which case you could probably call the more recent releases
alpha. Now that I have resend working beyond the level that 1.94 could
ever support I'm going to push to fill those final holes (basically, get,
index, info/intro, and some better help messages) and move one of my
unsuspecting lists over. I expect to be able to do this within 30 days,
perhaps less depending on how my free time goes.

Well, it's really up to Chan; he is of course free to do what he thinks is
appropriate. Many moons ago, when I decided to do a rewrite instead of
1.95, we basically decided that the 1.x line ended with 1.94.x.
Unfortunately that was when I was under the erroneous assumption that there
would be more interest in 2.0 and thus less 2.0 development time. I didn't
expect to still be working alone and playing with pre-alphas a year later.
(Not that I think it's anything but my fault that this is so. I've never
been a good motivator, and I did take a good-sized break in there.)
