Yes, but the THANKS file was intended to be personally from me. A CREDITS
file would probably be more appropriate in the role you envision, since
otherwise we (as the developers) are just thanking ourselves.
I don't want additional credit as the primary author, since it would be
untrue. Brent is the primary author, even if none of his code remains.
(In the early days of the project, the new code was bootstrapped up from
the old code by replacing it piece by piece. Half of the way through what
might have been 1.95, I decided to toss the rest.)
I also don't see the need to pander with an additional section for big
contributors; no contribution is too small and all contributions are
equally helpful in some sense. People will contribute or not based on
whether or not they want to, not because of where their name goes on a
list.
I'll reformat the file, rename it to CREDITS, and add any of my personal
thanks to the end.
