Fortunately this is something more determined by the list than by the
user.  If the list owner puts :$LANG/informal before :$LANG in the search
list, then the list owner has made the choice to converse informally.  The
choice of language is still up to the user.

BTW, who's going to write the formal/informal English equivalents?
