Yes the backends aren't really that uniform. I'd still say it's a good idea
to write the MySQL support using DBI - this will make it a lot easier to
then later support other SQL dbs even if you have no idea how they work.
That's kinda the point of DBI.

If there's current interest in DBI with MySQL and MSQL support and you
think that the relevant code is clean enough to have someone new to
majordomo2 but familiar with perl5/DBI slot something in I can probably get
it sorted (that's not me but someone else here). We'd certainly want it for
if/when we moved to mdom2 as it'd make our web sutff on top of majordomo a
lot easier to integrate ...
