But that sounds like a philosophical argument.  Of course the software can
be configured by a bonehead.  It can also be used to deliver spam to
hundreds of thousands of people.  I think the latter is much worse, and
still I don't lose sleep over it.

The point is to provide tools to the list owner.  RBL lookups are a
powerful tool.  And given the only alternative way of getting RBL lookups
(in the MTA) is much worse in that there's only one way to configure it
(bit bucket with no hope of parole), I can't see any substantive argument
against it.  (Those would have to come from either a code complexity
standpoint or a performance standpoint.  The former isn't much of an issue
since it's only a few lines, the latter isn't an issue because you can turn
it off.)

It's interesting to watch various nerves twinge when the RBL is mentioned
anywhere.  I don't have it enabled on my MTAs because of the many problems
with it.  But the idea of being able to just require approval for
RBL-blacklisted hosts has me excited.
