Many versions run as root, but will not open a file unless it has
the correct ownership. It complains bitterly if my ownership isn't
correct for my lists directory. Sendmail IS running an root, but it still
doesn't like to abuse that. It is a security feature, more than anything.
By not doing things as root, it is much safer.
